Slam![]() A poetry slam is a competitive poetry reading. Poets compete with poems of their own creation, without props, costumes or musical accompaniment. Poets are usually limited to 3 minutes per poem, with a time penalty incurred for any extra time. Five random people from the audience are selected to judge the poems on the scale of 0.0 - 10.0 with ten being the best score. We drop the high score, drop the low score, add the middle three and determine a winner. Our slams have 10 competitors in the first round, 5 in the second round and 3 in the third round. The sign-up list goes out at 7:00 and is first-come-first-serve. Read more about our slam here. Hosted by: Emily Kagan Trenchard - Slam Master
