Raise the Red Tent celebrates the female poetic voice by featuring two women artists – most often a poet and a musician, though features have included dancers, monologists, and performance troupes. In addition, all readers in the open mic are invited to share a poem by a woman along with their own. Poets reading in the open mic are encouraged to bring poems by their favorite female writers, and an array of poems are provided for others to choose from throughout the night.

Raise the Red Tent aims not only to create a safe space which honors the female voice, but also a time and location to celebrate and discover the work of women poets from outside the immediate community.
