I love mythology, but I'm even more interested in poetry of place. Try taking a classical myth & placing it in an entirely different setting. What if Osiris & Isis are in Newark instead of Egypt? What if Orpheus wanders through the Mississippi Delta in search of Eurydice? The point is to take hold of a story we think we know and use imagery drawn from a specific setting to examine how place acts upon language. |
