The Prelinger Archives (http://www.archive.org/details/prelinger) are an online goldmine of ‘ephemeral’ films (films sponsored by corporations and organizations, educational films, and amateur and home movies, produced to fulfill specific purposes at specific times). Find a film from the Prelinger Archives (especially terrific are films from the 1950s & 60s) and watch it while taking notes of memorable phrases or images from the movie. Now, write a poem using the language or imagery from the film you watched (or some combo of both). See, too, if you can weave one specific personal experience or memory into your Prelinger poem in an unexpected way.
