When the earthquake struck, their tiny facility was inundated. This small hospital will continue to be a major part of the long term recovery in Haiti as thousands of Haitian survivors are forced to flee Port-au-Prince in search of help. We believe in the deep necessity of the work that they're doing and we urge you to join us in doing whatever you can to support the people of Haiti. For the entire month of February we will be offering special recognition and gifts from us and our poets to persons making direct donations to IMA of Tennessee. You can drop off your checks at our reading series each Monday or make your donations directly to IMA thru their website Rich Villar is one of those rare writers who crafts verse with an extraordinary sense of irony, wit and humor. He simultaneously confronts his subject matter without flinching or sacrificing deep examination. His poems are smart, poignant and hysterically funny. You can’t afford to miss this reading or what promises to be a great night at the louderEDGE especially since we’ll be putting Rich through his paces with the Q&A session that follows his set. Bring your own questions for this long time louderARTIST and Acentos Foundation director. There’ll be a bright and shiny open mic as usual plus the Monday night sweetener of 2-4-1 drinks with DJ Eliel Lucero on the 1s & 2s!
"Adam Falkner's poems are good because they do not rest. They are looking outward and examining inward at all times. Because this search is so honest and so careful, his craft and attention to it, find themselves part of the same hard, honest work as the inquiry itself, and for this Falkner should be commended. For this his poems warrant, and are a part of, our celebration." Roger Bonair-Agard (Tarnish & Masquerade 2006, Gully 2010) Join us on Feb 8th for exemplary poetry from this award winning poet, educator, hip hop artist and Brooklynite and you'll find out what all the fuss is about. The poems are fresh, the drinks are flowing and the slam list is twitching in anticipation of your name...
