louderARTS: The reading series
Every Monday, the louderARTS Project presents one of the country's most diverse and respected poetry series. For eight years, the louderARTS reading series has provided a nurturing and challenging community for NYC artists, showcased established and emerging poets, and set the standard for excellence in fusing the written and spoken word for the national spoken word and slam poetry community.
louderARTS comprises seven formats: SLAM, louderEDGE, Pinon, Raise the Red Tent, GrooveNation, OUTloud, and UPPERCASE. Each format incorporates an open mic and seeks to shape or expand the audience's understanding of poetry and the world in which we seek to create it.
A thriving open mic is a critical indicator of the health of a poetry community, allowing poets to share their work with a supportive audience in a non-competitive atmosphere. On any given Monday, the open mic regularly attracts more poets than the night can accommodate, ranging from first-time readers to national slam champions to established academic poets.
