Rebecca Hart
"If Ani diFranco and Natalie Merchant had a love child, I’m sure Rebecca Hart would be her best friend.”-redbutton.com 2000
Although Rebecca Hart would prefer to think of herself as the love child of Suzanne Vega and Steely Dan, she appreciates the above comparison as well. Hart has been a performer since her first stage appearance at the age of nine months, and a performing songwriter/guitarist for the past decade or so. After completing a degree in Theatre at Brown University, Hart postponed a life of auditions and classes in New York to spend several years fronting the “folk-jazz-rock-jam band” the Rebecca Hart Project, which formed in Providence, RI then migrated to Los Angeles. With the RHP, Hart recorded three independent albums: Swallow the Moon, The Rebecca Hart Project, and SIGH, and ‘played out’ extensively on both coasts before disbanding in 2001. Hart currently resides in New York City, where she is training as an actor at the Maggie Flanigan Studio, working with a music attorney to pursue a recording contract and other things musical, rehearsing a new band, and preparing for a fourth recording. Highlights of the past year include showcasing at the Durango Songwriter’s Expo in CO and the Cutting Edge Conference in New Orleans, playing the House of Blues Boston before it closed, and staging her original one-woman play with music “Jazz Desert”, at the Culture Project Theatre in NYC.
