Brenda Shaughnessy

Brenda Shaughnessy's first book of poems, Interior with Sudden Joy (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1999) was nominated for the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award for Poetry, a Lambda Literary Award, and the Norma Farber First Book Award. She is the recipient of a Bunting Fellowship at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, a Japan/U.S. Friendship Commission Artist Fellowship, the Isabella Gardner Fellowship of the McDowell Colony, and was a 1999 Village Voice Writer on the Verge. Her poems have appeared in Best American Poetry 2000, Boston Review, Conjunctions, Nerve.com, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The Yale Review, Jubilat and elsewhere. She is the poetry editor at Tin House and teaches creative writing at Columbia University and Lehman College/CUNY. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
